Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival
What's hot in San Diego California this year? The 4th
Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival! This year's Asian
Film Fest will take place on October 2-5 with tickets
costing $6 per film. Buy your tickets now before prices
rise on September 15th and at the door. Among the numerous
films shown this year will be "I Not Stupid"-the
2nd highest grossing film in Singapore box office history.
This film is about 3 academically challenged boys who
serve as characters of metaphorical comparison to the
pitfalls of Singaporean government and society. Also
being shown is, "My Tutor Friend," a Korean
comedy about a girl majoring in English who tutors a
wealthy boy who is not only indifferent, but gives her
a rather difficult time. These films and many more will

West Players' Musical "Passion"
This year, the East West Players theatre company, the
most prominent Asian American theatre company in the
nation, will be opening up its 38th annual season with
the musical "Passion," a one act chamber opera
about an army captain who is forced to re-evaluate his
beliefs and passions about true love. This play is based
on the book by James Lapine (also known for, In The
Woods- 2002) with music and lyrics provided by Stephen
Sondheim. This play will be presented at the David Henry
Hwang Theatre in Little Tokyo from September 10th to
October 5th. Ticket prices range from $25- $60.

Episode of (H)api Hour LA
The second episode of "Hapi Hour LA," the
new happy hour series, will be hosted at the East West
Player's David Henry Hwang Theatre in Little Tokyo on
September 24th, from 7pm -9pm. This series of monthly
"Hapi Hour" social events began in the San
Francisco area in order to promote the networking of
APA (Asia Pacific Islander) professionals. These events
have also taken place in New York and the first of the
series in Los Angeles took place at the David Henry
Hwang Theatre courtyard last month. These events will
benefit Asian Pacific American non-profit organizations.
This month's "Hapi Hour" will guest star news
anchors such as David Ono, Denise Dador and Ted Chen
from ABC7 and will benefit the Asian American Journalist
Association. This series of social events has raised
more than $12,000 so far and is still earning more.
"Hapi Hour" will be free and open to the public.

Diversity Players
The new multi-ethnic theatre ensemble The Diversity
Players which is committed to bringing professional
family entertainment to the Los Angeles community will
be presenting its inaugural production of "You're
a Good Man, Charlie Brown." The play will premier
September 25th and performances will run through October
19. Tickets will be $15 for general admission, but there
is a $3 discount for pre-sold tickets, students, seniors
and union actors. Children 12 and under get in for only
$8!

Sonic Orange
The increasingly popular indie-pop band Sonic Orange
will be playing at Borders Books and Music in San Francisco
on September 20th 2003. Led by lead vocalist and drummer
Olie, this three-man band takes indie-pop to a whole
new level. Known for their "melodic genius"
and hip, modern-day edgy sounds, Sonic Orange is a catchy,
head bobbing live band that will be sure to get you
asking for more! Hosted by musician, Mica Lee Williams,
they will be performing for the USA Song Writing Competition
Showcase.

1-800 Collect has been holding a contest known as Battle
of the Bands to find America's best artist. Finalists
have been competing for professional studio recording
time and the grand prize winner will have the opportunity
to open for an unnamed Atlantic Recording Artist. Two
of the 15 semi-finalists, Kaila and Legaci are both
Asian American Hip Hop/ R&B vocalists who need your

Annual Los Angeles Moon Festival
The Los Angeles Moon festival will be coming back for
its 23rd return to China Town on Saturday, September
13th from 10 am to 10 pm. Held at the Central Plaza,
this year's festival will celebrate the traditional
ending of the summer harvest, giving thanks for the
bountiful land. Sponsored by the Chinese Chamber of
Commerce who encourages the development of the Chinese
American business community, the festival gathered over
5,000 people last year. Events presented throughout
the day include music, traditional Chinese dance, martial
arts demonstrations along with a Bruce Lee look-alike
contest and much more.

Annual Harvest Moon Festival
KSCI-TV and CDC VERB promote Celebrating Active Children
at the 8th Annual Harvest Moon Festival. This event
will take place at the Arcadia County Park on Sunday,
September 21st. This event will promote a new approach
to helping teens and youth discover new ways of becoming
more physically active with a number of sports. Last
year's event attracted 30,000 PEOPLE from all over Southern
California. They spent the day shopping, eating and
enjoying top Asian entertainment. This year, the festival's
main stage will feature everything from hip-hop and
rock to cultural performances. Keeping with the tradition,
one lucky winner will even be able to win a brand new
Volvo.
