Attack of the 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors
BY NICOLE KIM
Self proclaimed the worlds most psychotic Asian American comedy troupe, the 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors are back in Los Angeles after a three year hiatus in the Southern California region, bringing with their return an insanely uncontrollable laughing act.
The Warriors fight with a fierce force previously unknown to America. Their ongoing battle began in 1994 in San Francisco; AND now they are touring internationally at various at colleges, festivals and other theatrical areas.
They are no simple warriors. The weapon of choice: satire. Utilized to its fullest extent, the warriors get you pumped up with smile stretching, torturous tactics of fun, fun, fun words. With satirical renditions of Asian American life styles and events, they redefine what it means to be Asian by targeting one ethnic stereotype at a time and blowing it to bits, according to Karen D'Souza of Mercury News.
The troop performs various comedy sketch pertaining to media events, wildly known for their daring depictions, some good, bad, intimate, shocking, or brazen; that go beyond the traditional mainstream images of Asian Americans in the media, claims Sandra Chu of Slant Magazine.
Attempting to diversify images of Asians, the warriors are presenting their show, Psycho Karaoke. This feature is a collection of their greatest hits including: The Chinese Womans Swim Team and World Cup 2002. These acts will definitely leave you hanging onto your chair screaming with laughter.
East West players proudly presents the 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors original production which is provokingly entertaining with sources drawn from Saturday Night Live, Hong Kong Cinema and Monty Pythons Flying Circus. Come watch this limited performance April 11 and 12 (Friday and Saturdays) at 8 p.m. It is showing at David Henry Hwang Theater located at 120 Judge John Aiso Street in Los Angeles.
